In spring, when the first sun rays touch the land and all the world, when everything is rising in all cold, icy corners and stretches, as if stretching out hands to the sky, to the sun, waiting for its life-giving force, calling to welcome spring, the birds – messengers of light and sun carrying in itself a logo of the Sun, life, Resurrection and birth. “Egg-Saviour”(Oberig) helped a man to attract and to connect good strengths, and protect himself from evil. And for the purpose, an Egg had a stronger effect ,it was painted in red, yellow or green. Painted eggs were called “ krashanky.”

Man, back in ancient times, applied to egg magic marks, in the times when they could not write,- those signs were picture- prayers. That was the way Easter eggs were created, because displaying different signs, they carried the information of request, and gratitude, faith and love of a man.
Easter egg – painted with diverse miniature ornaments chicken egg –was the symbol of the Universe. The ancient art of Easter eggs has become an integral part of spring decoration, festive celebrations, which subsequently, after the adoption of Christianity, centered around the Resurrection, or Easter. It has become kind of language for communication with the outside world, by a large number of signs and symbols was created.
Ukrainian Easter egg has more than 100 symbolic images, scratches; bezkonechnyk - a symbol of the beginning and end; trynih, tryrih, trykver - symbols of heaven,earth, air and fire. Easter egg with the picture of the sun is considered to be the oldest one and is dedicated to the God of the sun. Easter egg with the image of the tree of life is a symbol of immortality.
Painted in geometric, floral, animal, traditional or individual style, with the use of authentic signs, Easter egg-pysanochka became a "miracle egg savior" of folk art, ritual attribute of great Christian holiday.
The study of history and the painting technologies of Easter eggs are successfully revived nowadays. Well- known artists as well as artists of new generation, have an opportunity to demonstrate their art at exhibitions and festivals which are organized by artistic centers, societies and museums. In the town of Kolomyia there is the only museum of Easter egg in the world, which exhibits more than 12 000 eggs from all regions of Ukraine, as well as from many countries of the world.
